Salt Lake City Invisalign Braces: Get Set Up for a Straighter Smile
Braces have traditionally been large, complex, intertwined metal contraptions that completely take over a person’s mouth and obscure their smile for years. Finally, there is a modern alternative called Invisalign, which straightens teeth and improves smiles without a bunch of wires and metal in your mouth, letting your smile shine through during your entire orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign, often called “invisible braces”, is a modern approach to orthodontia that improves and simplifies the process of straightening teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign braces have no metal brackets to attach to the surface of your teeth and no wires to tighten monthly. This means you won’t have to deal with rows of canker sores or the intensified pain that accompanies the weekly or monthly tightening of the wires that connect traditional braces together. Anyone who has endured traditional braces knows that there must be a better way. And by visiting Invisalign certified Dr. Vernon at Reason to Smile Dental in Salt Lake City, you'll discover that there is!

Invisible Braces
Since its entry into the marketplace in 1999, Invisalign has been used to treat more than 1.5 million patients in more than 45 countries around the world. At Reason To Smile Dental in Salt Lake City, Utah, we use these “invisible braces” to treat our patients who need to have their teeth straightened. Invisalign braces are a much easier, less-painful alternative to other forms of orthodontia, including bracket-and-wire braces.
When you begin your Invisalign treatment at our Salt Lake City office, we set you up with a custom-made series of aligner trays that are created exclusively for you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable, and virtually invisible plastic that you simply wear over your teeth, much like a mouth guard or retainer. Wearing these aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into their proper place, based on the exact series of movements that we plan out for your specific needs. You simply pop in a new set of aligner trays approximately every two weeks until your treatment is complete to achieve the confident smile that you’ve always wanted. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even notice the Invisalign trays or have any idea that you’re straightening your teeth.

Opalescence Take-Home Tooth Whitening System
Opalescence take-home teeth-whitening gel produces professional results in as little as 30 minutes per day. This at-home potassium nitrate and fluoride whitener gives you the professional tools you need to whiten your teeth on your own time.
- Whitens and improves tooth health
- Prevents dehydration and shade relapse
- Is available in four concentrations of gel for flexible treatment
- Includes three flavors — Melon, Mint, & Regular
- Can be used for 30 minutes per day, or overnight
Benefits
The aligner trays are virtually impossible for others to see. This makes them a favorite among adults who must undergo orthodontic treatment but don’t want to use unsightly metal braces.
You can remove the trays to eat and brush your teeth, which makes them much less difficult to keep clean than traditional braces.
Invisalign trays do not cause many of the negative side effects of traditional braces. Bracket-and-wire braces are prone to causing some damage to the gums and surrounding tissue, often in the form of canker sores and swelling. They often cause the teeth roots to shorten, and cause some degree of tooth decay in up to 50 percent of patients.
Treatment with Invisalign braces takes 12 to 18 months and is usually much quicker than traditional braces, which can take between 3 and 5 years to straighten teeth.
Invisalign is not without its disadvantages, but they are pretty insignificant compared to the disadvantages of other orthodontic treatments. Invisalign’s disadvantages include:
With Invisalign, the patient is much more dependent on the patient’s participation and behavior. But if the patient wears the trays as instructed, it pretty much eliminates this concern.
Invisalign cost is frequently higher than traditional braces. However, the benefits tend to justify the expense for most patients.
